Life onboard Amundsen

The first day on the icebreaker has been hectic. It is 12.55 and I am still awake. The sunlight is there but has mellowed a bit. Some scientists are still working. The food on the ship is good and scientists are extremely friendly....

More tomorrow...

What is the mode of entertainment on the ship. How do scientists relax there after all the hectic activities? Have you seen any polar bear, whales or seal there?

@gmail.comthere is satellite television with limited number of channels, there is satelliote radio, people have their own ipods, and there is a DVD player in the committee room where you can play a movie.

Of course, there is good good and wine.
But I have not seen any one indulging in any of these activities much. This is daylight time in the Arctic, so they want to make use of thier time in collecting outdoor data. Most of the scientists are working all the time!

Yes, so far I have spotted a seal...
